Fab Trends: Social Calling Cards
When it comes to networking at a business event, I’ve got it in the bag. I’ve got my “elevator pitch” and my 10-second spiel down to a science, my business cards within arms reach at all times, and I’m pretty confident when I walk into a room that if need be I could sell water to a whale. However, put that same pressure on me in a more social setting and I freeze up like someone poured liquid nitrogen in my cosmo…what is that? For many business professionals, it’s hard snapping out of networking mode when you’re socializing, and some find it awkward (and inappropriate) handing out their business cards in a more relaxed setting-that is where social calling cards step in.
Social calling cards are basically business cards for social people. So, if you’re attending a wine tasting and strike up an interesting conversation with the brother sipping Bordeaux and you’re trying to figure out a classier way to give him your information without putting it into his phone, how about sliding him a stylish and personalized calling card with your name, e-mail address, and number. For custom designed cards check out Brooklyn Social Cards and Red Stamp.
When ordering your calling cards, keep the information you put on the card to two or three lines. Your name, number, and e-mail address is all that you need to give out. Some suggest keeping the contact information on social cards to one-side, leaving one side blank to hand-write a little memorable note, something like: “Let’s chat further and discuss reds, whites, or anything you like” (My game is so weak! I can’t wait until the launch of the Lovelife section in February, because your girl needs help. lol)
