Shida, your grandmother does not mince words! Sheesh. lol

Nicki, yeah I like versatility. I flat iron my hair every once in a while. It's nice to know I can rock curly straight or whatever whenever I want to.

Until last week, I would have said I'd never been asked to change my hair for a man BUT last week I wore a cute wig and my boo was not liking it...

I used to have long straight (relaxed hair) until June 28, 2007 when I cut it ALL off and went natural. THAT was a shocker for him but he rolled with it but prefers long hair. I think the wig threw him off - he's so used to be curly fro and all.

My Mom flipped when I cut it but now she's loving the natural. Strangely - most people preferred the natural to the wig (ie straight hair). Either way - I love the versatility!!

I sure have been asked to change my hair... many times- by men, by my family and by random nameless people on the street/at work. I have been wearing my high natural for 12 years and let me tell you, it did not make me a popular person. At first, I did it by necessity; I had gotten a terrible perm and had to cut my hair. First, my family laid into me. My grandmother constantly said, "Honey, you look pretty with a press n curl, but not like this!" Way harsh. Then, the men started. I have had numerous men date me and then ask me to straighten my hair. As if! The rare occasions when I did get a pressncurl, the reaction by men was "Keep it that way!" and people at work would ask if I had gotten extensions. People can be so oblivious. I realized that wearing my hair natural is a statement that I am in control of my own hair and that I shun traditional notions about black beauty. My hair is the way that I want it, whatever that may be. And eff the ones who don't think that I am beautiful for being natural.

And BTW, the millionaire matchmaker chick did tell one sista to straighten her hair and promptly sent her away. She looked too classy for that flim-flam operation anyway! :)
