Just when I was about to put my niece down for the evening, I saw a huge crib recall on my local news…not good. Stork Craft Manufacturing announced yesterday evening, the voluntary recall of more than 2.1 million Stork Craft drop-side cribs, including 147,000 of them with the Fisher-Price logo; making this the biggest crib recall in history.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, parents should immediately stop using Stork Craft drop-side cribs as the crib’s drop-side, which is attached with plastic hardware, can detach unexpectedly and create a space between the crib wall and the adjacent mattress. Infants and toddlers can become trapped in the space and suffocate or fall to the floor. Yikes! Unfortunately, the faulty crib has already done a lot of damage; so far there have been 110 reported incidents, four of which resulted in suffocation.
The cribs were sold at major retailers between January 1993 and October 2009. Please visit the CPSC’s website for more detailed information.
