I got married on August 8, 2008. I am a woman of "a certain age" and marriage was the last thing on my mind at this point. By 12/31/08 we were not sure if this was going to last because of my issues. I got on my knees that night and prayed to allow myself to love in 2009. I remembered to remind myself that i love my husband before answering him or making a comment. Guess what? it works! I amde a difference in our lives by admitting that my way does not work... This year went much better. I would imagine some of it has to do with year 1 hurdles but i know for sure that by asking God to allow my to relax and not feel like "the black man" this or that, things got a lot better. I made a vow part way thru the year to increase my giving and I succeeded. I even used half the bonus I received to adopt a family for the holidays. Next year my intentions are to physically volunteer. It's easy to write a check or give unused clothing (which I've been doing), but I'd like to see first hand how those gifts received are put to use.
