Get 'Em Girls

A close girlfriend of mines is getting married this May and I’m so excited that her maid of honor has tapped me to help with the planning of the bridal shower. We recently sat down for lunch to discuss the details and the first thing we both agreed to is to ‘86 the strippers (or skrippers as my Aunt Paulette calls them). The days of hot sweaty men swinging their fringed junk over me while I nibble on tea sandwiches are over–whoo hoo!

Both the maid of honor and I were recently laid off and are small business owners–so we decided to get creative, while keeping the budget in check. Here are some fun ideas that we came up with and incorporated into our soirée:

The Theme:
When choosing a theme, try to think about the guest-of-honor and her likes and dislikes. To keep the cost down and to eliminate the need for purchasing a bunch of miscellaneous items that will never get used again, opt for decorations that can also be doubled as takeaway gifts for the guests and bridesmaid.

For our “Something Blue” theme, we are asking that all the guests wrap their gifts in “Tiffany blue” boxes, to add to the already blue decor. We have also opted to use fresh-cut flowers, and purchase inexpensive vases from Ikea and/or Target as opposed to using a florist. Decorating the table with crisp white plates and linen, and adding a little bling, in the form of these adorable crystal paperweights, adds to the bridal feel and is a great takeaway, as the guests can use them in their offices or as fabulous decoration in their homes.
