Get ‘Em Girl of the Week: Midwin Charles
Last night my fellow WEEN Committee member, Midwin Charles was featured on CNN’s Showbiz Tonight! weighing in on the Tiger Woods scandal.
Midwin is a woman of many talents with a knack for making them shine. As a lawyer, Midwin provides incisive, critical analysis on issues of the day through a variety of media outlets. She provides commentary for the Nancy Grace Show on CNN Headline News and when Nancy asks the tough questions, Midwin fires back with hard-hitting answers. As a regular guest commentator for Court TV, MSNBC, and the FOX Business Network, Midwin’s colorful and sharp-witted observations engage the audience and keep them wanting more. She also reached the public over the airwaves when she’s on Court TV Radio. Her incisive legal assessments are in part the product of a diverse background. As a native New Yorker with a Haitian heritage Midwin’s fresh perspective on law, race, and politics give her an unexpected edge.
For six years, Ms. Charles worked at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in New York where she managed complex litigation, arbitrations, class actions, and federal investigations. Her experience has included representation of Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts clients, World Trade Center victims, criminal appeals, and civil rights class actions.
Currently, her boutique law firm, Midwin Charles & Associates LLC offers full services in criminal defense, commercial and civil litigation, general corporate, entertainment, family, and employment law. Her attorneys are experienced professionals who handle complex matters with a record of success and have represented individuals, Fortune 500, mid- and small-size companies. They provide their clients with quality legal services at modest costs and are devoted to our clients’ every need. Ms. Charles’ substantive areas included, intellectual property, contracts, employment, securities, white-collar crime, criminal law, real estate and bankruptcy.
Active in legal, social and community affairs, Ms. Charles is a member of the Association of Black Women Attorneys, the Dean’s Diversity Council for American University’s Washington College of Law and the Junior Committee of the New York City Mission Society. She has served as a member of the Civil Rights Committee for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
Midwin graduated from Syracuse University and earned her law degree from the American University, Washington College of Law, where she was an Articles Editor for the American University Law Review. Following law school, she served as a law clerk for U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Judge Eric L. Clay and as the A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr. Research Fellow in Social Justice at Harvard Law School under the supervision of Charles J. Ogletree, Jr. She is admitted to the New York State Bar, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Supreme Court of the United States.
When she isn’t winning cases for clients, she’s negotiating million-dollar real estate deals as a real estate broker. What’s next for Midwin? Next year’s New York City Marathon. As a keen forerunner, Midwin is always going the distance.
