They continually strive to use our planet’s resources wisely, searching for outstanding natural materials and ingredients from across the globe to include in their range of products. The Body Shop continues to lead the way, sourcing sustainable palm oil, introducing 100% recycled packaging, and raising funds and awareness to help prevent the spread of HIV/ AIDS, and continuing to support marginalized communities around the world through our Community Trade fair trade program.

For more than 30 years The Body Shop has believed that business has the power to make the right kind of difference to the world. Their unique philosophy continues to drive everything they do, allowing customers around the world to become ‘activists’, simply by choosing from their range of products.

As Dame Anita Roddick said: “Activism isn’t listed on The Body Shop labels as an ingredient, but it is there as surely as the bergamot and hemp oil”.

I’ve made a difference in my life in the way I handle family stress. If a family member comes to me with a problem, I’ve learned not to take it on as my own. I love them dearly but as a new change, I have to separate that from my own struggles. It’s too wearing onto me and I don’t want to bring it home to my kids.

It’s not a huge difference but I recently donated a whole bunch of food to our local food bank. I hope it helped! :)

One of the ways that I like to help people is by going to afterschool programs to volunteer my time. Our youth need us –and by going just a few hours each week, it can really make a difference in a child/ or teens life.

In late October, I ran into an old friend from high school. She was in good spirits, but she confided in me about all the misfortune she’s had in her life within the past year. She foreclosed on her home, her husband left her w/ 4 kids & she was sleeping in someone’s basement. She didn’t know what to do & she had nowhere else to go. I invited her & her children to stay at my home until she finds a new place to live. I knew that she needed some kindness & a helping hand in her life, so I extended both.

I make sure to give money or buy food for the homeless people downtown when I see them. I am sure this makes a difference to them.

I have open my home too a couple that had nowhere esle to go. Around Thanksgiving I was asked do I have an extra room available; which I did so no problem. Almost a month later I find out that the couple didn’t have a home they could openingly go to. I feel I will be blessed for helping someone out, because it could have been me.

I devoted a lot of my time teaching teen girls at my church. I believe that I have made a positive impact in their lives. Some show obvious changes, but at the least I know that I’ve left an imprint.

I’d like to think I’ve made a difference with my seasonal giving to local organizations that help the homeless. I made a vow part way thru the year to increase my giving and I succeeded. I even used half the bonus I received to adopt a family for the holidays.

Next year my intentions are to physically volunteer. It’s easy to write a check or give unused clothing (which I’ve been doing), but I’d like to see first hand how those gifts received are put to use.

In 2009, I made a difference in my life by allowing myself to exhale in my marriage. I got married on August 8, 2008. I am a woman of “a certain age” and marriage was the last thing on my mind at this point. By 12/31/08 we were not sure if this was going to last because of my issues. I got on my knees that night and prayed to allow myself to love in 2009. I remembered to remind myself that i love my husband before answering him or making a comment. Guess what? it works! I amde a difference in our lives by admitting that my way does not work…

This year went much better. I would imagine some of it has to do with year 1 hurdles but i know for sure that by asking God to allow my to relax and not feel like “the black man” this or that, things got a lot better. I hope to continue this in 2010.

The difference in my 2009 life has been my wonderful husband. In 2010, I committed to rededicate myself to happiness and growth with myself, my husband, family and close friends. On that journey, my spiritual reconnection will light the path.
