Delicious Reads: Vegan Soul Kitchen by Eco-Chef Bryant Terry
If you mixed the soul of Marvin Gaye, the “eco-swagger” of Van Jones, and the culinary brilliance of Marcus Samuelsson–what you would have is a delicious helping of Chef Bryant Terry’s newest cookbook, Vegan Soul Kitchen (De Capo)! I was lucky enough to be sent a copy and I must say I’m loving it. Now, I’m not a vegan in the least bit, but good food is good food–and I know good food; and when it’s good for you, that’s a win/win.
The book is chock full of 150 recipes, complete with soundtracks for each one and is broken down into chapters that are as fly as the recipes inside of them. Chapters include: Raise Your Stock (Essential Gear for your Kitchen), Top Six Good Eats (You Gotta Rewind Me), Hydro Game (Drinks), Sound Bites (Appetizers, Starters, Snacks), Mix Plates (Salads, Slaws, Dressings), Liquid Lessons (Soups, Stews, Pot Likker), So Fresh and So Green Green (Veritable Vegetable), Bring the Grain (Rice, Oats, Ancient Grains, Grits), Protein Routine (Beans, Tofu, Tempeh, Seitan), Daily Bread (Biscuits, Cakes, Cornbread), Margie’s Cupboard (Condiments, Sauces, Preserves, Pickles), and Sweet Thangs (Desserts, Candies, Ambrosial Treats).
I really plan to get it in with this book this weekend, especially these Johnny Blaze Cakes that are so calling my name right about now. I think I’ll follow the books advice and pull out my M-E-T-H-O-D Man and get to cooking; but in the mean time, head over to Amazon.com and pick up a copy of VSK, and tell ‘em the Get ‘Em Girls sent you.
Live. Life. Deliciously.
