Eyebrow Waxing, How Sanitary Is It?
There’s nothing like perfectly shaped eyebrows. I try to get mines done every couple of weeks, and I’m very particular about the condition of the salon that I go to–the last thing I want is to leave out with an infection or worse.
How can you tell if your esthetician is taking all the right measures to make sure your waxing is a safe and sanitary one?
- The environment should be clean and dust-free. All of the wax pots should be cleaned of any excess wax buildup and used strips and sticks should be disposed of properly.
- Your esthetician should wear latex gloves. Hair removal of any kind can draw blood, even if it is a tiny amount, which can leave both you and the technician vulnerable to infection.
- They don’t double-dip. Once the applicator stick is dipped into the warm wax and then used, it should not be dipped back into the wax again. The wax can become contaminated and cause infection to yourself and other customers.
- Tweezers, scissors, and other metal utensils should be sanitized after each use.
So run through the list and hopefully the salon you frequent passed the test.

I found the 3rd point to be very “interesting” because I’ve seen just about all estheticians double-dip the applicator stick, as a matter of fact, they use the same stick on multiple customers!! :-((
