Don’t Forget To Warm Up!
What if I told you that if you added an additional 10 minutes to your workout routine you could burn more calories and project your muscles and heart; you would probably add those few short minutes to your routine immediately. Well those few minutes I’m referring to are the warm-ups you should be doing before working out. Warming up is crucial when working out, letting your body adjust gradually to the demands of exercise, you avoid injuring your muscles and put less strain on your heart. You may also find exercising easier and, therefore, more enjoyable when you warm up first.
Why warm up?
- Leads to efficient calorie burning by increasing your core body temperature
- Increases your metabolic rate so oxygen is delivered to the working muscles more quickly
- Prevents injuries by improving the elasticity of your muscles.
- Allows you to work out comfortably longer because all your energy systems are able to adjust to exercise, preventing the buildup of lactic acid in the blood
- Psychologically prepares you for higher intensities by increasing your arousal and focus on exercise
In order to fully reap the benefits of the time you are spending exercising, you must warm up. Taking those extra few minutes to adjust to increased activity will ensure a better performance from your body and you may also find exercising easier and, therefore, more enjoyable when you warm up first.
